Terms and conditions

Written to be read. If anything here is unclear, ask us before you order rather than after — that is what the address at the bottom is for.

1. Who you are dealing with

These terms are between you and Wewrote (“we”, “us”), a trading name of Adam Grieve — our business address is not finalised and will be stated here before we take any payment. You can reach us at hello@wewrote.co.uk, and about an order at support@wewrote.co.uk. We reply to email; there is no telephone number because there is no call centre.

2. What we do

Wewrote makes one thing: a printed book of photographs and messages, written by several people and given to one. You start a book, share a link, other people add pages, and when you are happy we print it and post it to you.

The service is free to use up to the moment you order a printed book. Nothing is charged for starting a book, filling one, or reading it.

3. Accounts, links and who can get in

There are no passwords. Your book has a private organiser link, and anyone holding that link can change the book — so treat it like a key. You can also sign in with your email address, which is another way to the same place. If you think your organiser link has gone where it should not, replace the invite link from your book’s page and get in touch.

Contributors need no account at all. Their browser keeps a small marker so they can find and edit their own pages; clearing it means they can add another page, which is a deliberate trade for a gift book among friends rather than an oversight.

4. What you may put in a book

By adding a photograph or a message, you confirm that:

• it is yours to use, or you have permission from whoever owns it;
• it does not infringe anybody’s rights, and is not unlawful, threatening, harassing, defamatory or obscene;
• you are content for it to be printed in a book and given to the person it is for.

You keep the copyright in what you write and the photographs you add. You give us permission to store them, lay them out and print them for the purpose of making that book, and for nothing else. We do not use anybody’s photographs or words to advertise Wewrote.

Organisers see every page before anything is printed, and can hide or delete any of them. That is the moderation on a book, and for a book filled at an event it is the only moderation there is — so read it through before you order. We may also remove content or close a book that breaks these terms, and we will say why.

5. What a book is

A hardback with a printed cover and lay-flat pages, in one of three shapes: square 210 × 210 mm, portrait 210 × 297 mm, landscape 297 × 210 mm. Every book is bound at 20 pages, which is the smallest a printer will bind; if fewer than 20 pages were written, the remainder are blank cream leaves. A book holds at most 60 pages, and a message at most 320 characters.

Paper, board and binding are natural materials and colour on a screen is not colour on paper. Small variations between the proof you approve and the book you receive — shade, trim within a millimetre or two — are normal and are not faults. Anything beyond that is, and section 8 covers it.

6. Prices and payment

£19.99 for a 20-page book, £0.99 for each written page beyond that, £5.99 or £9.99 for delivery, and £4.99 to leave the Wewrote mark off the cover. The total is worked out and shown to you before you pay.

We are not registered for VAT, so no VAT is added and none is included — the price shown is the price charged. Payment is taken by Stripe; we never see or store your card details. Prices can change, but never for an order already placed.

A contract between us is formed when we take your payment and confirm your order by email. If a price is obviously wrong through our mistake, we will tell you before printing and you can confirm the correct price or cancel for a full refund.

7. Cancelling

You can cancel for a full refund at any time before your book goes to print, for any reason or none. There is a button on your book’s page. Refunds go to the card you paid with, usually within 5 working days.

After printing has started there is no right to change your mind. A book of one person’s photographs and messages, made for one named recipient, is goods made to your specification and personalised — which the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 exempt from the usual 14-day cancellation right. By ordering you acknowledge that, and that you lose that right once we begin printing.

This does not affect your rights if something is wrong with the book. Those are in the next section and they do not expire.

8. If something is wrong

If a book is damaged, faulty, not as described, or not the book you approved, tell us at support@wewrote.co.uk with a photograph and we will reprint it or refund you, whichever you prefer. You do not need to return it first.

Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 — to goods of satisfactory quality, as described, and fit for purpose — apply in full and nothing here reduces them.

We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for the fact that a gift did not arrive in time where the delay was caused by something outside our reasonable control — but if we are late through our own doing, we will refund the delivery charge and, if the book has become useless to you, the whole order. We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

9. Your data, and how long we keep a book

What we collect and why is set out in our privacy policy. In short: we keep a book’s photographs and messages while it exists and for 24 months after it is printed, so we can reprint it if it is lost or damaged in the post, and then we delete them. You can ask us to delete a book sooner at privacy@wewrote.co.uk.

10. Things we are allowed to change

We may change these terms — the version that applies to your order is the one published when you paid, and the date at the foot of this page tells you when it last changed. We may also change or withdraw parts of the service, but not in a way that affects a book already paid for.

If we ever had to stop trading, we would tell every organiser with an open book and give reasonable time to order it or take a copy of what is in it.

11. Law, and what to do if we disagree

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction — though if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may bring proceedings there.

Please write to us first. Almost everything is a misunderstanding that one email fixes, and we would much rather reprint a book than argue about one.
