No, and this is the thing most people worry about. 20 pages is simply the smallest book a printer will bind, so every book is 20 pages whatever happens, at £19.99.

If eight people write, you get eight pages of messages and the rest are cream leaves — with a line on the first saying what they are for. Plenty of people write two or three pages themselves to start it off. A short book with good pages in it is better than a long one padded out.

No. You send a link, people open it in whatever browser is already on their phone, write something, add a photograph or four, and that is the whole thing. It takes about two minutes.

You do not need an account either — though you can sign in with your email address to find your books again if you lose the link.

Allow a week or two for people to write, then about 7 days for printing and delivery — or 5 with faster delivery. So two to three weeks before the day is comfortable, and a week is possible if you chase.

Yes. Choose “people will add pages at an event” when you start the book and you get printable cards with a code on, four to a sheet of A4. Put one on each table; guests scan it and write a page there and then.

Read an event book through before you order it. An open code on a table is an open invitation, and you are the only person who sees the pages before they are printed.

A hardback with a printed cover and lay-flat pages, in one of three shapes: square 210 × 210 mm, portrait 210 × 297 mm, landscape 297 × 210 mm. One person per page, their photographs and their words, set in whichever of four typefaces you choose.

You write every line on the cover yourself, and there is a small Wewrote mark on the back — which you can pay to leave off.

Up to 320 characters — a good paragraph — and up to 4 photographs on their page. They choose how the page is arranged and see it exactly as it will be printed.

The limit is deliberate. A page with four lines on it looks considered; a page with forty looks like a form.

Almost certainly. Photographs are prepared on the phone or laptop they came from, at about 310 dots per inch across a full page, which is more than a printer needs.

A very small or very old photograph, or a screenshot of a photograph, may be soft. You will see it at the printed size in the proof before you order.

Whoever added it can move and zoom it — tap the photograph on their page. A frame has a fixed shape and a photograph rarely does, so somebody has to decide what gets left out, and it should be the person who took it.

You can also see every page yourself before ordering, and ask them to change theirs.

You can hide it, delete it, or reorder the book. You cannot rewrite what somebody else wrote, which we think is right — it is their page, and they signed it.

Contributors can change their own pages until you close the book for printing.

Yes, up to 60. Each written page above 20 is £0.99, and you see the total before you pay.

£19.99 for a 20-page book, then £0.99 for each written page beyond that. Delivery is £5.99 (about 7 days) or £9.99 (about 5 days). Leaving the Wewrote mark off the cover is £4.99.

Nothing is charged while the book is being filled. You pay once, at the end, when you have read it and are happy.

We are not VAT registered, so there is no VAT to add. The price you see is the price you pay.

Not yet. The organiser pays once at the end. Splitting it between contributors is the next thing we want to build, because it is the question we are asked most.

Yes — any time before your book goes to print, for a full refund, no reason needed. There is a button on your book's page. Refunds usually appear within 5 working days.

Once printing has started we cannot refund a change of mind, because a book full of your friends' messages cannot be sold to anybody else. That is the law's position on personalised goods and it is also just true.

If a book arrives damaged, faulty, or wrong because of something we did, we replace it or refund it. That never expires.

You, through your private organiser link. Contributors see their own pages. Nobody else sees a book unless you give them the link.

Photographs are stored at long, unguessable web addresses. Anyone holding the exact address of a photograph can view it, so treat the links as private — and know that this is how the pictures load instantly.

Yes, while the book exists and for 24 months after it is printed, so we can reprint it if something goes wrong in the post. After that they are deleted.

You can ask us to delete a book sooner, or ask what we hold about you, at privacy@wewrote.co.uk. We answer within 30 days.

No. Photographs are re-encoded in the browser before they are uploaded, which removes the location data cameras quietly attach. That was done to make uploads fast, and it happens to be the best privacy property we have.

Delete the page. You see every page before anything is printed, and nothing reaches the printer that you have not read.

If somebody is using a book to harass a person, tell us at support@wewrote.co.uk and we will close it.

Order the book. A printed book on a shelf does not depend on us still being here, which is rather the point of making a physical thing.

If we ever had to stop, we would tell every organiser with an open book and give time to order or export it.
