Choosing a group gift
Card, photobook, or a book everyone writes,
When a group wants to give one present, there are four usual ways to do it. Each is right for something. Here is what each one gives, and who ends up doing the work,
| Group e-card | Photobook one person designs | Blank book passed round | wewrote, | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What they keep | A web page or a PDF | A printed book | A handwritten book | A printed hardback |
| Who does the work | Everyone signs; little to arrange | One person gathers and designs | Whoever carries it round | Everyone adds a page; nobody designs |
| Photographs | Sometimes | Yes, chosen by one person | Only if stuck in | Yes, chosen by each person |
| People who live far away | Easy | Only if they send photos in | Hard | Easy, from their phone |
| Time to make | Minutes | An evening or a weekend | Days or weeks | Under five minutes each |
| Ready in | Instantly | A few days to print | When it has gone round | Printed and posted within 7 working days |
When each one is the right choice
A group e-card when it is needed today, or the group is large and the gift is small: a colleague’s birthday on the day, a quick get-well-soon.
A photobook one person designs when the photographs are the point and one person already has them all, and the time to lay them out.
A blank book passed round when everybody is in one room for long enough, and handwriting matters more than photographs.
wewrote, when the people who matter are spread out, everybody should be in it, and the person it is for should have something to keep. Each person adds a photograph and a few lines from their phone, with no account; we lay out every page, print and bind the book in the UK and post it. £34.99 for 24 pages, plus £5.99 delivery.
